$21 worth of planes.....and then some!!
« on: January 10, 2013, 08:09:12 AM »
Those of you following that old tool stash I picked up last weekend, this is the box of planes the guy sold me for a whopping $21(all the cash I had left after buyig all his adjustable brace bits implement wrenches, S Curves, etc.

I need a little help in identifying some of these and since there are several here I have never seen before, some help on their history would be good too.

TIA

DM&FS

Top Row:
Unidentified small plane(turned it backwards to see if anyone can ID it by the unique adjuster knob on the back)

14" Bluegrass with corrugated bottom(missing parts)

Here is a little bit of information on the American Boy block planes.  They are not Stanley.

>that American boy was made by delta specialty company that later turned into Delta Rockwell Co.

Roger k Smith in his listing has them being marketed by Woolworths circa 1938.<

They are quite common and not really considered a desirable collectable.

In the first picture, the two wooden planes are, first on the left, a rabbet plane, and second, on the right, a dado plane.

Just looked at the title again.  Wow.  $21?!  Depending on the condition, the dado and the rabbet are worth that each.

What is the width of the lone plane blade & cap iron? I suspect this may be the most valuable thing in the haul.

It looks to me to be from a #1 plane.

Brophy, I wanna say it's maybe 1 1/2" wide or close to that.  NOw you got me wonderin'.  Check it out tomorrow and confirm.

The blade on my #1 is 1-1/4" and 1-5/8" on my #2.

Either way you have a blade that is worth more than you paid for the lot of planes!

Brophy, that blade and cap iron are 1 3/16" in width.  I didn't measure the length.  Figured the width was the critical number.....I could shoot a real macro if that would help ID it

DM...At 1-3/16", it's likely from a#1 size plane and worth putting on eBay. Being a secondary brand makes the value hard to guess, but I'd think it would be between $50-$100 if it is in good shape (not rusty or pitted).

A larger pic would help.

No pitting on this blade or cap iron, just some discoloration that the new owner can deal with as they wish.....

A local craigslist crook has a pile of small miscellaneous planes like that and he's asking $25 each.
