A TUESDAY Moving Sale full of old tools...

...unfortunately, the owner wanted WAY too much money for his stuff.  $20 for a 6" Barcalo Buffalo adjustable wrench in fair condition?  $5 each on fair condition Plomb 1/2" drive sockets?  I got out of there with the Powr Kraft 1/2" drive ratchet(84W4860), a farm wrench with a number 733 on it, and a Endeavor  Gator Grip socket that looks like it's never been used.  I don't get the $15 price tag for the GG new, but I spent $6 for the 3 pieces after some heavy haggling.  Didn't want to ask what he wanted for the Powr Kraft screwdrivers....

Well that Wright-sourced Powr-Kraft is nice.

And you can use the Gator-Grip to keep the papers from blowing off your desk!

The farm wrench is listed in Rathbones as C. B. & Q. They made corn planters and hay loaders etc.

As far as the Gator Grip,  I'll try it out and after it fails miserably, it can go in my "wall of shame" tool collection and have the distinction of being the first US-made tool to occupy that storage box...

It was really hard to read what letter was inside that diamond logo to the left of the POWR KRAFT logo on the shaft.  Thanks for clearing that up.  Still not sold on the "cushion grip" handle concept for those ratchets, but this does explain the "W" on the end of the grip barrel.  Geez, I was guessing "WARDS".  The ratchet is smooth and been well-used, but not well-abused.

I actually have one of those Gator-Grips as I liked the concept & carry it in my go-bag, but it just doesn't really work very well in practice. OK for low-torque situations, I guess...

Odd, I don't recall a "W" on the end of my Wright; maybe it is for "Wards"! Wright was the source for many of the MW tools across their different brands.

I expect the W really is for Monkey Wards.
Its a very cool ratchet.
 It has the gear change / disk mechanism from an earlier time, and a tootsie roll handle.
 As if Wright was using up the old style ratchet but adding what had to have been, a new tootsie!
Nice crossover type. It has to be scarce.

I picked up a "Gator Grip" socket. Probably paid 50 cents for it. A little soak in the ATF/acetone, and all the pins loosened up.
Figure it's gotta have a use. Maybe removing totally rounded axle nuts off of an old bicycle.

I dont know about that. I think the gator grip sockets are worthless.

My experience with them is the pins move and get guncked up.

Just get the right size socket or in that case get one of the sockets meant for rounded out bolts.

Whether it's Robo Griip, Gator Grip, or Poly Grip, they're all going to fail eventually.  I figure the Gator grip will work just fine at it's "maximum" size where the fastener is touching nothing but the metal socket....and yes, I had a pair of Robo Grips and sold them at the last big World's Largest Garage Sale event last fall.  Even the Craftsman version of that tool would make my wall of shame.

Follow Up on Greedy Guy.  He lives within a mile of my house, so I went back Wednesday afternoon, as my son wanted the two pr. of John Deere lawn tractor chains he was selling. Tuesday  he wanted $10/pr and  I was going to offer him $15 for all 4.  When I asked about the chains, he spouted off "$30/pr.!!"  When I reminded him of his price 24 hours earlier, he went down to $20/pr..  Moral of the Story:  Yard sales with no prices marked are to be tread upon VERY lightly....

I figured for $6, I "gentiled" him down on a ratchet, farm tool, and a goodfernuttin' socket.  HE wanted $50 for the above, 3 old sockets, a Ford auto wrench, a no name monkey wrench, and 4 old combination wrenches.  I just kept subtracting stuff til we got down to $6.  All I really wanted was the ratchet.  God only knows how many sales he blew off haggling with me as folks came and went when they couldn't find out what price was on various items.  If he ever ran a business, odds on it went belly up for any number of reasons.  My wife couldn't stand the OF.
