G.L. James Buggy Wrench
« on: March 14, 2013, 08:08:15 PM »
Just wondering if anybody knows how many sizes of the G.L. James wrenches there are. I have one that is about 18 3/4" long, and tonight I purchased one that appears to be complete, but seems much shorter. It was in the  Tired Iron Auction that Aumann auctions had online the last couple days. I'll see if I can post a link to the auction...http://www.aumannauctions.com/index.php?subp=1&sct=&pg=ap&pid=30285

I ended up with 4 lots, paid a bit more for the lot with the James than I had planned, but got a deal (I think) on a lot that has a Caledonia and a Gowanda wrench in it. I also ended up with a lot with a R.C.P. (Robinson Chilled Plow a.k.a. Syracuse Chilled Plow) wrench in it. That wrench is a dupe, I'll look them over and keep the better one. I got beat out on a couple other lots that I would have liked to had, Carl Wagner got a few of them. I'm pretty excited to make the trip out there to pick the wrenches up this weekend.

Make sure to look at the tractor part of the catalog if my link worked. I totaled up the sales from that part alone......$825,885 pre-buyers penalty.

To somewhat answer my own question...at least 2

A 13" and a 19" are the 2 I now have. The 13" has the spinner broken off the back and one piece of cast is broke, but still a decent wrench. The 19" is dead on perfect other than being dusty and dirty.

Never seen one of those before. That 19-incher looks like you could get some seriously leverage with it.

I did get 3 lots of wrenches. I'm playing hell getting them sent to me though. There is a planet Jr in one of the lots that is not in Rathbones book. With that one, the Janney, the Elias Silo and the Dennett I scored pretty good. I had my eye on the RCP but ran out of money. Glad you ended up with it though.

Glad to see you on here Carl.

I wanted that Elias so bad, but like you, ran out of money to play with too. I concentrated on the 4 lots that I really wanted. I thought that planet jr was the solid H4, I have one of those so let that go. The G.L. James was my main interest on the big money board, but there were also 2 sizes of A.P. Joy's on there as well. Unfortunately, they need some cleaning up. You did well on the Janney too.

On the one board, they did a poor job of picturing wrenches, but I could see some of the Gowanda wrench, so I had to go after that.

What lot was the Dennett in? I must have missed that one.

Wish I had known you would have trouble getting them. I could have picked them up and shipped them right out to you. They had all yours taken down when I got there. I went up the Sunday after and got all mine.

I know you sell some too, so if the Elias is ever for sale, please let me know. I have a spare Binghamton Wagon company buggy wrench we might could work into a deal.

Go back and look at the Planet Jr again. Its smaller and different than an H4. Its not in Petes book. Might be worth a mint. The Dennett was in the same lot. Id love to have a Binghampton wagon wrench. Ill look for another Elias Silo for you. The Janney was a great deal at the price I paid. You looking for anything else?

I'm not really looking for anything to specific right now. I searched for the Binghamton for years, then the Gowanda was next on my list and found both of them. I suppose I'm sort of looking for the wood beam Syracuse, I've seen many for sale, just never had the money at the time I guess. I would like to finish my Syracuse collection though, lack four or five of the rarest ones.
