I picked this up at St Vinnies yesterday. I'm going to use it as a positioning fixture on my milling machine, but I'm curious if anyone knows what it really is for.

The plate sorta looks like a mount for a router.
What is the number on the pipe cross piece?

Sorry for the late reply Rusty.  The base is a 253-14, the cross piece is a 253-2 and the mount plate is a 253-11. This looks to me like part of an AMT Tool. They sold very simple, inexpensive home shop equipment in the 50's to 70's.  Pretty good stuff for the money, but not sophisticated.

It's the base to turn an eletric hand drill into a drill press, but it's missing a few pieces.

Thanks, Abendango and welcome to Tool Talk. That post is from a while back and since then, Ifound an AMT ad that showed the complete drill press. Since I don't have the quill or the motor.  I am still trying to think up a use for it.  Find the introduction page and tell us a little about yourself and your tool interests.
