What Have I Got Here?

I picked this up recently and I am not sure if I have an Adz or brick cutter. It is obvious that the last owner believed the latter.

It is not an adze.  I believe it is a paving hammer.  Sometimes called a Belgian paving hammer.

Thanks Mike, after Googling Belgian Paving Hammer, the pictures indicate you are dead on. Funny, I lived in Europe for a while. I saw lots of pavers buy nary a paving hammer 8^)

Welcome to Tool Talk!

To be an adze, it would have had a blade instead of a pick, I think.

search also Marteau de Paveur - originally used for granite cobblestones, or setts,  now probably finding a use with precast concrete paving blocks... Many regional styles of hammer head exist - some with a narrow blade, others with a wide one...
