Ford puller sold by Ford or aftermarket
« on: September 02, 2012, 10:28:53 AM »
I found a model A axle puller

says FORD 1929-32 in block letters

Is this one that Ford dealer would sell or is it Aftermarket?

No makers name

IF OE wouldn't it be a script FORD?

And maybe have a ford number?

You are right, the Ford tool would have a makers name on it.  It would be KR Wilson, since they had the contract for all the official Ford dealer tools in that era.  It would also have the KRW number on it.

I'm sure it is an aftermarket tool, and at least 1932 or later.  It is very conventional for a hub puller of that era.

It kinda has to be after 1932, unless someone had ESP and knew when production was ending...in the future...

Since ford needed to have the dealer tools available in the original model year, it seems highly likely it is an aftermarket tool...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

I looked this up in the "Green Bible" 1928-48 Ford parts book:  the B 1115 rear hub and brake drum assembly was used from 1932 to 1934.  That means that the puller probably would have been cast before the end of 1932.

I think that the Ford rear hubs had the groove cut in them for the puller later than 1934, but the groove may have been a different size or placed differently.  I have 1948 Ford rear hubs and brakes on my 1928 Model A, but I don't think I'll pull a rear wheel to check!

I have many offical Ford script Model A service tools (Z tools) that were made by: Herbrand,  McKaig-Hatch or Mossberg.
