Anybody recognize this ratchet?
Its 7 3/4" long and its a 3/8.
It says benchtop on it and is actually very smooth working.

Hmm, now there's an odd looking ratchet...

I think Bench-Top was one of K-Mart's house brands....

Yup its odd, the guy had $5 on it and wouldn't come down so I basically took a chance and bought just out of curiosity. I've never seen a plastic ratchet before.

You can't be the only guy to bite at $5.00 even if it isn't worth it. Gotta be a $10.00 guy out there somewhere. Trick is to find him before the tool becomes a real antique.

A friend of mine said that it didn't matter what you paid for something, there is always somebody that will come along and pay more.

I hope he's right.  Of course he neglected to say when that somebody was coming.

   If it won't be collectible in your lifetime, you have bought it for your great grandchildren.

A crazy pattern ratchet like this will be red hot property some day.  It couldn't have been popular new and it wouldn't last in use.  So there can't be many around. 
 I am guessing about 75 years from now it'll be genuinely valuable.

I  told my granddaughter to tell her kids to keep a eye out on eBay many years from now for it.

I like these ratchets. I usually see them in the quarter inch size but I know they were made in 3/8 and 1/2 also.

I would suggest etching  EVILDR235 into it as deeply as you can so there will be less confusion in identifying it

A little late to arrive here but I can confirm that ACE HARDWARE did put their name on these
I used a "store credit" from returning a useless gift (don't ask) and purchased a 1/4" set that has sae & metric sockets, short extension and this ratchet. the sockets looked of decent quality but I did not think the ratchet would last, but no matter as the full set of 1/4"sockets was needed most.
I don't think  there is a brand of 1/4" ratchet mfg after 1960 that i have not broken (it's not called abuse if pursuing the dollar) and I'm not declaring it is superior to all, but after 6-7 years in otr fleet repair it is still functioning fine. It exceeded my expectation by such a margin that I had to write this compliment about it.
 A coworker showed this site to me after a debate over some tools I have, regarding their purpose, and I look forward to soon providing some pictures with the hope you all can provide some answers.

yes they were a 90s style, i remember seeing them in K-Mart, Home Hardware and Canadian Tire with different labels on them
