ESTATE SALE FINDS
« on: June 17, 2011, 10:10:55 PM »
I went estate saleing this weekend and hit a silver mine full of stuff. The first was this red tool box full of Williams 3/8" drive sets. Most of it was unused. In another basket on the table was another 3/8" set of  Williams deep sockets with the hole thru the drive end. Also in the basket was a 1/4" Mac and Snap On ratchets and sockets. On the work bench I found a Matco 3/8" ratchet  with a Mac plug socket attached.I got a Williams soft head hammer , Snap On 1/2" impact swivel , Williams 3/8" speeder , and a pile of other stuff. And to sweeten this already good Friday, as I was driving home I spotted something shinny in the middle of the road.It was a Snap On FC72 3/8" ratchet the size of a 1/4" ratchet brand new.I stopped on a four lane highway and ran out to grab this ratchet.I can't repeat what my girlfriend called me for dodging traffic for a stupid tool.I had some other cool finds at a pawn shop too.I'll start another post for that stuff.

Yeah, I've run out into intersections to grab a tool. Not as dangerous as it looks, but, it can be considered looney to the non-tool person in your life.
Motherlode is right!

Major.  The mosquito image won't do; this is more worthy of a bloated tick!

great haul.  Should help start a new set, or fill in an existing one.  The east coast once again shows that it is the honey hole for tools on the "cheap", that are terrific.

Here in Buffalo,Williams had a factory.I see alot of never used Williams tools quite often.I believe many employees tool home tons of tools to have a set at home and that's where they sat till they died. There is way too much of this stuff around for someone to have bought this new.

>I believe many employees took home tons of tools ...

Most likelt.

My dad, years ago, went to an auction at a factory in CT where they were making craftsman sockets, (They went under, he was buying machines)
He said there were sockets in the machines, sockets in bins all over the place, sockets rolling around the floor, sockets rolling around in the parking lot, sockets in the grass next to the parking lot.....

If an employee wanted to take a couple of sockets home, I doubt it would have been much of a challenge...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.
