Peculiar Fun Whatsit
« on: July 27, 2012, 08:31:21 PM »

Don't usually post whats-it's from book photo's, but this one has such an oddball use I thought it would be fun...

Triple action because it turns clockwise, counterclockwise, or locks in place...

What is it for?

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Looks like it could wind up wire, cable, or banding straps.   Never seen anything like that used for fencing, but could quickly take up slack on barbed wire.

Looks like a handle to a hand winch you'd use to bind a load down.

ROFL...why doesn't that sound like a good idea?

Hot Glass working tools are a whole catagory we never see here :(
(they are typically graphite, cold steel and red hot glass don't play nice)

No, it's oddball and obscure ;P

OK

It is a 'brace wrench', a medical tool, for a (then) Surgeon, to bend leg and back braces (strap iron) into shape to fit the patient. There is also an associated simple hooked bar wrench to use as a backing wrench....
