I just think Thorsen Allied and TAT represent a sour spot in the history of a once, if briefly, respected name. According to AA, "by 1940, Thorsen Mfg. was struggling". In fact, I don't see where "TAT" or "Allied" appear on AA at all. The Thorsen name took a singular path to decline for sure, but the TAT and Allied period is an an embarrassing time to many Thorsen fans. Imagine all those who 'invested' in TAT thinking they were buying Thorsen like their dads had, only to find out that their fathers Thorsen had been comatose for 30-40 years already. After all, there was no internet, no tool forums; who knew? In some ways, the people who did this to the Thorsen name were pioneers of what is so commonplace today, and, they did without the help of Stanley! Not a good memory. Simply put, TAT just ain't the same thing as Thorsen. Many folks who buy tool boards have a pretty good sense of this story or some other version of it, and will therefore likely pass on a Thorsen Allied Tool board.
That said, it does not mean there are no buyers for it. And, I have most certainly watched many an eBay item sell on subsequent attempts for no other apparent reasons than a higher price and a few days further down the road. I have tried the trick with success a time or two myself. It's baffling but undeniable. If it doesn't go for the higher price, I wonder what a 99 cent starting price would do?
In any case, good luck!! I've got it on my watch list :)
Edit: I went back to watch list it and noticed it's in an 'advertising/memorabilia' category and just wanted to note, while were on the subject of eBay mysteries, that categorization is an even bigger mystery than pricing. I don't think I'll ever figure out either one though. After all, it all comes down to the decisions people make, and that is the biggest mystery of all.
