A.D. Rude Angle ruler 1889 Beautiful
« on: May 20, 2012, 10:39:30 PM »
Check it out. I found this at a garage sale. The guy said he would consider selling it but I didnt have more than 10 bucks on me so I didnt even offer. It was his dads he says. He also had a small folding ruler that had some nice age on it and was in nice shape. Anyone have info on this ruler and what it might be worth. I don't think I want it but I might try to buy it if it has some value or if someone else does.

This is a tailor's square. Probably a suitmaker owned it.
They are showy and beautiful, and I love them. This particular one is a real pip.
But they don't have a high value. About 30-50 is what I've seen people actually pay in money.
I've seen some priced higher than this, but the ones that actually sell go in this range.

The 1 foot 4 fold caliper rule is better than average too. Its got a decorative center joint, always a good thing. Who made it?

Yep, tailor's square.  Not real common, and like Scott says, showy tools.  $30 to $40 is a good range too.

Some daft twit has one up on eBay, with a big split off the long arm for BIN $160.

I 'spect he'll be disappointed.

Thanks for the info guys:) I couldn't find a name on the caliper rule which was suprising due to it being a little more fancy than normal.

Get your magnifying glass out and look very closely. On the side with the brass slide between the end and the 1 it says No 36 1/2 and between the 1 and 2 it says Stanley Made in USA. It took me a long time to find it on mine. It is very faint.
