"AWARD" Brand Wood Chisel....House Brand or Junk??
« on: May 04, 2012, 08:08:51 AM »
Somehow came across this wood chisel in fair condition.  Not being one to throw something in the garbage until I find out if it's worth anything, I ask the experts on this forum if they know anything about this wood chisel.  Google is clueless.  The seonc photo was an attempt to get the faint log to show up.  Hope your eyes are better than mine.!!

TIA

I don't think any chisel is something to toss in the garbage.  Put an edge on it and see how well it works, how well it keeps an edge.  If it doesn't take or keep a good edge there are still a lot of uses for it, places, for example, where you wouldn't want to risk a good chisel.  It'll still make a decent pry bar for lifting staples or prying up a ledger or molding.

Its a house brand but I don't know whose.
Looks a lot like some Monkey Wards I have had.
Could be Vermont American, Great Neck or one of several makers really.

It might be a fine worker.  I carry these kinds of chisels for construction work.  Better than current hardware store dreck and usually cheaper to get.

Don't hit it with a steel hammer! It won't take that, whoever made it.

Gambles brand sold through Tempo and other hardware stores.
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

And you can always use it to open paint cans.

No, No, DON'T!!!  I was just teasing!!!

It's always a good idea to have a rough work chisel.

Yes, and I sold a fist full of them a week ago Saturday!!  No worries,  they seem to clone themselves and re-appear at other garage sales and auctions.  I think they have a union...
