tap/die/reamer , and a what ?
« on: April 26, 2012, 08:33:38 PM »
Drove a good ways, got lost, bought 4 tool boxes and a plastic container of couldnt sell yard sale junk for $20, as I had a lot of miles invested... dumb.
But as I was emptying out one of the boxes I noticed an embossed logo, turned out to be a late 30s/40s Snap On K-25. And I pulled out 4 Grobet needle files that I will do OK on, so maybe not so bad.

So,  what are these ?  Small ones are slottted to turn XXXXX ? And the other one looks like a tap/die, OK, but a reamer also ?
Any and all help is appreciated !

Red handled ones look like contact adjusters for Stromberg XY telephone switches.

Not sure on the one with the knurled handle, might be a telephone relay rack wrench.

Bottom one is a battery post & cable cleaner

Not sure of the thread size - but if 26TPI probably a gas thread - do not know about the US, but in the UK gas fitters used a combination tool (tap, die and internal reamer) to clean up damaged threads when fitting gas lamps etc - however your tool looks a little modern as gas lamps disappeared c WW2...

The contact bender with the knurled handle - I have one in my tool box. I don't know what its for, I thought it was for auto ignition. Al.

The small slotted tools  look like the ones we would adjust the contacts inside the pre-electronic auto voltage regulators.    Had to set them for volts and amp output, plus the cut-out relay.

I aggree with nick and  Brucec, grease nipple wrench. The spiral portion of the handle is an extractor for removing broken ones and the slot in the side of the hex head is so that it will fit 45 and 90 degree nipples.

2 questions on this answer ( As always, Thanks for replying !! ).
The reamer would have to be a left handed thread to be a removal tool ?
The open end of the tool has what appear to be die threads in it , so I dont see how they would work on an angled fitting.

I think it is a little big for a grease fitting tool, will measure the Tap end tonight. Unless this is a tool for large grease fittings (Wild Ass Guess here).

Grease fittings come usually in one of two sizes(threaded section)  This one looks to be the larger size.
