Billings & Spencer DOE offset
« on: January 06, 2021, 01:27:41 PM »
Came across these today doing some reorganization in the shop.  I have 12 of them, 10 are NOS with original paint and the other two have been cleaned.  Have no idea how complete they are, as they are before size standardization.  Sizes listed on them are Nut, CAP, USS and OC.  I think I got tired of trying to find sizes I didn't have and put them away.  If anyone has any of them send me a PM with the marked sizes and I will check mine and trade with you if I don't have it.  Going to SAE sizes they run from 7/16 to 1 1/4 inch.

The "O" in "OC"  is actually a hex shape denoting hex head -- this multiple size marking was going on during the transition from U.S.S.  standard to S.A.E.  I've had reprints of  paragraphs explaining the meaning of those size markings a couple of times in past MVWC Newsletters.  There are probably two digit numbers on the shanks -- those numbers  were "standard" numbers.

Very nice. I’ve always liked their tools.
