Martin Donnelly July Event
« on: July 02, 2020, 06:45:33 PM »
Martin Donnelly sent out a notice today that his July event at his house in Avoca NY this month has been canceled due to the NY State Quarantine on some out of state travelers due to the COVID19 virus. The auction is completely canceled, no on line auction either. He stated that some of the items listed in the catalog may be offered in either the Nashua or Indy Fall Auctions.

This thing is affecting many events nationwide.

I guess erring on the side of caution is the new normal.

Hello, Lewill2. Thanks for the heads up. I was just there on the 21st of June, and things were progressing toward the July Auction. Sad news for all involved, Lou

This is really a huge deal! Last year they sold 100 TONS of tools. 3200 lots. A lot at this auction could be a single item or a pallet full of stuff. I have no idea where he can store it. This is, unfortunately, going to be a real mess for them.

Hopefully they’ll be able to have the Nashua auction.

Hello, Mike. I am sure this is a storage nightmare for the Donnellys. There were quite a few shipping /storage crates yet to be unpacked. Regards, Lou

My guess the Nashua and Indy Fall auctions will go on, either live at the intended place or online. The Spring auctions were online as the travel restrictions were in place at that time. The Spring and Fall auctions are more online friendly as most of the items can be shipped. I picked up a large tool bench from the Spring Nashua auction that I went and picked up after things died down a little.

Hello, Lewill2. How long a drive is that for you? For me it's about 2 hours, I like driving through the small towns, taking my time. Regards, Lou

It is about a 4 hour drive for me. I eventually get on I81 and then I think it is I86 or something in NY to Martin's. I live South of Easton PA not to far off the Delaware River.

It takes me 10-12 hours depending on which route I take.  I would usually take a few days to get there, and stop at my family place in Meadville to visit.  I don't go there much now that my Dad is gone and my super hoarder sister has junked up the place.  I would not advise co-owning property with 5 siblings, particularly when they are all hoarders and one is crazy.

I went up there every year from 2007 to 2018, but I skipped last year.  I still have 80 boxes in my barn from 2017 and 2018.

And I live in Eastern Kansas not far off our Delaware River.  It fills Lake Perry where I reside.  But a long, long drive to NY.

Per the latest MJD newsletter, the September Nashua auctions will also be online only.
