auction sold tools first

 Well almost first(at least early) Got these at auction this evening.

Unknown gadget to fit on tri-square

 My number 1 pet peeve at auctions is they always sell tools last.
Pic is back side of  gadget (my guess is wrong tri square has groove and this also has groove) what is it for?

It looks like the part of a protractor that fits on the same ruler a tri-square fits on.

Little accessory piece turns out to be for Starrett protractor level from 1902 catalog.
Info on practical Machinist per grandson.
Will try to copy address he gave me.

Sounds like its a hard piece to find. Understand that as it would be easy to lose.
