Sandvik Belzer socket set - more info?...
« on: November 12, 2018, 05:48:09 PM »
What have I got here?  I bought this set for less than $50 - because it is a 1/2 drive metric set and I have no 1/2 drive metrics.  The Belzer name appears to have jumped around from one company to another and in this iteration is Sandvik Belzer.  The appearance is a very high level of finish.  The case is heavy gage metal and the molded inside blue stuff is solid heavy tough - probably foam rubber.  The tools are highly polished chrome and heavy.
The kit seems to be # 7800SM but the label has an additional number - 7819HNRE.  Most of the tools are stamped Sandvik Belzer Vanadium Extra and the ratchet and two extensions are also marked Germany.
Is anyone familiar with this brand and if so, what is the value of this set?

Very nice set. I have Sandvik   Hacksaws , nicely made. Didn't know they made socket sets.
Looks like a good value.
Of all the things I've lost , I miss my mind the most

Didn't know they made socket sets.
Probably made by acquiring the company that made them.

Terrible set of tools, just send them to me and I'll dispose of them for you. I'll even refund the $50 so you wont lose out. ;-)
VWs to D10s, I've fixed em.

Thanks papadan!  I'll keep your offer in mind, which with my memory will be 2-3 days.
Here's what I've learned so far - mostly from this you-tube vid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnbtMNqaRAM
Belzer existed as a company from 1884 to 2003 - the name is still being used for tools made in Brazil.
In 1970 Belzer merged with Dowidat.
In 1988 Bahco took over Belzer-Dowidat.
In 1991 Sandvik bought Bahco.
In 1999 Snap On bought the saws and tools business from Sandvik.

I guess at this point my biggest question is, when did they make this set of tools?

Some companies keep the names of the companies they acquire for the relevant product line more or less forever.  Stanley had a long practice of a transition from "XXX, Division of Stanley" to using the Stanley name only.  If you can find out what Bahco and Sandvik did historically, that might help with narrowing down the production period.
