Marx POCKETOOLS came on 4"x7" cards -- a few years back there were lots of "new old stock" looking ones peddled on ebay -- have not looked lately to see if they are still that plentiful.  ( http://www.toymemories.com/marxtoyproductiondates.html ) includes POCKETOOLS in the list with 1962 as starting date for production.

I seam to remember a Marx construction set that I had in the 60s. It had nuts and bolts for building and wrench and screw driver. The nuts were square and fit the bolts/ machine screws.
VWs to D10s, I've fixed em.
