New Guy Looking for PWA Tools
« on: September 14, 2017, 10:01:16 AM »
Hi all, just a new guy that wrenches on old radial engines for fun.  Looking for a particular tool (PWA socket PWA3267) and came across your forums.

All in all I'm looking for the following 3 tools:

PWA2745  Thrust ring wrench
PWA3275   Bearing race puller
PWA3267   Starter cog nut socket

Of these, 2 seem hard to find.  I can fabricate the puller but need the ring wrench to remove the locking ring first.  The socket is for the starter gear located at the other end of the engine.

I have pictures fromthe Overhaul Manual if that would help anyone.

Any help gratefully appreciated! Thanks.

Hi guys, thanks for the nice replies.

I'm in Maryland now, born in Vt, raised in Brooklyn and Albany, went to college all over NYS.

Turnnut-indeed, I'm working on P & W radials-got lots of historical info on them being made in CT, Michigan (Ford, Chrysler and Buick all made different R-2800's).  Even Nash and Kelvinator.  Go figure.  I believe over 125,000 engines were made before the line shut down. In production in various forms from 1939-1956.

I just saw a note that said P & W R-2800 C styleengines were also made in Kansas City Mo.  Learn something new every day.

Best, John

Hello John, welcome... There is a "mystery" PWA tool on the forum now. Check out the "Wrench" forum,   thread "Museum Donation..." . Maybe you can tell us all what that wrench is used for.
