Complete Mossberg Set

I found a complete set of Mossberg wrenches, ratchet, sockets, even the screwdriver in the original wooden box at the antique store. Common enough to find the wrenches, sure, but the entire lot?!? Anyone know more than I do? Priced at $80, cheap i think, should I run back to the store and grab it?

Depends on which set it is, how complete it is and the condition. Does the box have a label on the ends or inside the lid telling the set number?

The No. 14 set is the only one that had a pliers. The No. 14 set with only the pliers would be worth the $80.00.

No pliers and didnt see any labels on the box. I just checked AA and couldnt find this set specifically but it is a large set like the 14. Instead of the tool lid storage like 14 this has a wooden tray lift out and sockets galore underneath. 350 ratchet, 351 extension, more spark plug sockets than shown in 14, open end wrenches marked with MFD by Frank mossberg, etc. not just the diamond M's, double male universal, and double screwdriver that i recall. Heads up! Upon actually reading and not skimming AA it says the tray was introduced in 1918 for the number 14 set.

Ok just returned from the antique store empty handed. I went back and was more than ready to bring the set home, but upon further inspection I believe its too good to be true. I took my AA research with me and some things matched and others didn't. The box does not have any label or any markings of any type. The clasps in the tray do not have the fleur de lis on them, the wrenches have different numbers than listed, the sockets are all there all 34 of them but only 3 had the diamond M on them. I have attached 2 pics and in them are the 350 ratchet, 351 extension, 101 offset screwdriver, 336 universal, wrenches numbered 243 (5/8,9/16), 267 (3/4,7/8), 220 (3/8,5/16), and 278 (15/16,1-1/16), spark plug sockets 29/32, 1-1/32, and 1-5/32. (402, 422, and didnt get the last.) Its possible the box and clasps are newer but as far as the sockets go, I think somebody put these all together. Thoughts?

The open ended wrenches included in these sets changed over the years, so that might explain the difference in the ones shown in the AA set.

 Some of the Mossberg sockets are marked very weakly and hard to read or even see the markings. I wouldn't worry too much about the sockets not being correct as marked replacements can be found (I have several boxes of extras).

Hell yes, buy the thing!!!!!! As previously said, box condition, tools... whatever all origanlly came with the set, are important. I think all of us can find you a missing socket or two. But, besides sockets, parts of those sets are harder to find. Buy it for sure!!!!!   Do you think anyone thirty years from now will have a clue what that complete set means?  OK, let's be realistic, most persons don't know the history and importance of an origanall tool kit.  I guess we'll all just keep that our own little secret.
       I know i have a few extra sockets for that set around here somewhere. But, buy it!!!

Ditto on what bird said.  Mossberg only marked some sockets.  I also have extra sockets. Let me know what you need. PM.
