Todays estate sale / snow storm finds.
« on: December 08, 2016, 06:51:43 PM »
I went to a estate sale today during a snow storm. It had hundreds of tools there, but it was so cold and windy i only stayed a few minutes. I bought the following items for a total of $14.00.

A Proto 1/2 inch drive ratchet.
A Proto 3/8 inch drive ratchet.
A Continental Air 1/4 inch drive ratchet for use in the aircraft building industry.
A Yankee 990 / North Bros. drill press vise.
A Goodell Pratt 1 inch micrometer.
A long Craftsman screwdriver.
A Stillson pipe wrench 6 inch model.
A Cornwell 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch socket adapter.
A little brass protractor.
A set of mixed Torx bits. Only one import. All 3/8 drive.
A Giller 1/4 inch drive tool box less tools.
A Cal Van pitman arm puller.
A set of new 5 inch vise jaws. Unknown maker.
A Plomb 1-1/8 inch 12 point socket.

It was bitter cold. I missed out on getting a Mossberg 22 rifle for $50.00 Might go back tomorrow if the weather is better.

Good eye on the vise jaws. They will probably pay for the rest and still has some to put in your pocket.

Well played!  I'd go for the little ratchet.

The little ratchet is a Continental Air Tool brand made for use with a allen wrench that goes thru the center. It does not have a detent ball and spring to retain sockets. The ratchet is marked CONTINENTAL AIR TOOL / CERRITOS CA. on the side cover and on the handle  it is marked JAPAN ATHR-250. The side cover screws are peened / rivited over so they can't be removed. It also has a small hole drilled in the end of the handle. Appears to be a factory drilled hole. I collect Proto / Plomb / P&C ratchets and their knockoffs. No sign of ever being used. Proto and Snap-On make a similar ratchet.

Cold in Vancouver.

That ratchet would be a Hi-Lok ratchet used to install Hi-Lok fasteners mainly in the aircraft industry.

That is correct sir. I had seen Proto ads for those ratchets, but had never seen one in person til yesterday. I have a few other aircraft related tools. I now need to find some submarine related tools as i was born at a submarine navel base.

One other tool i got and forgot to put in the picture was tool marked VIGOR INDIA. I believe it is used in the making of jewelry. Some kind of flat anvil or vise that clamps to a work bench. I will put a picture of it on here later. My picture person is at work right now.
