Baxter Auction Feb 20, 2016
« on: February 02, 2016, 10:19:57 AM »
Don't forget about the Baxter Auction of the Dennis Piper wrench collection in Indy on February 20th. I wish I was closer so I could go. Some really interesting wrenches shown in the pictures on the web site.

I wish he had a cataloged listing on line.

Wow. Your not kidding. Wish I was closer too.
A person who could really read human minds would be privileged to gaze on some correct imitations of chaos.

Lewill2,  going down thru the listing reminded me of 70 plus years ago, going into the lil corner store with 3 penny's in my pocket
and spending many minutes looking at all the penny candy, "oh, what to buy."

there are a few adjustable wrenches that I wouldn't mind taking home.

did not see any Ellis wrenches ?????

even used the magnifier to see if they had a Mossberg 652 universal joint tool that I am looking for.

sure would be nice to go to one auction like that.

Baxter will take absentee bids although I'm not sure how it works in the absence of a catalog.  Each of the photos has a unique number.
According to Bill Dodd, Dennis does not want a catalog for this sale.  There are more wrenches to be sold later.

I didn't notice any Ellis wrenches but with a collection like this there is bound to be one in one of the sales. I was looking at some of the more unusual stuff.

Would some knowledgeable member do me a favour and help identify a wrench?
Look at the flat of wrenches just below the one containing the short run snips. The odd little wrench in the center with one obstruction head and one hooked end. I have two of them: 3/8", one is 5" and the other 6". No identifying marks.
I'd appreciate it.
My, but aren't those tools amazing! P

This one?

One concern I have about this sale, and a reason I wouldn't even think about an absentee bid.... There is a box of cut pieces of wrenches and also some "fake" cutouts. They were done really well and are neat, but if somebody can do that nice of work, how well can they "fix" a wrench that you can't see in a picture. I will be there in person for a couple potential wrenches though.

Is anyone here going to be at the auction? I can't make it, and there is one particular item that I'm hoping someone can help me out with.

Northwoods, I am of no help. I always figured some unmarked cream separator wrench or similar use. No proof of that though. The one below and to the left a little needs to find a new home with me though. I'm sure it's nothing special either, but I don't have one yet.

Weather smiled & wife rode shotgun to make sure I didn't doze off so after a day's drive we are in Indianapolis.  I have printouts of the photos from the Baxter auction web site (not all -- just the ones from Dennis Piper's collection), and will have my phone turned on on Friday the 19th  (402) 362-7686  while attending the "preview."

I came to get good pictures for the MVWC Newsletter, DATAMP, etc. but will handle absentee bids if anyone calls me & we can figure out the exact item.   Regards, Stan Schulz editor M.V.W.C. Newsletter

Hope you and the rest of the folks lucky enough to attend had a good time. It sounds as if there was quite a turnout of tool nuts. (like us)

Can anybody give us a re-cap of how the auction went? Rustcollector answered a few questions for me. Wish I would have been closer for that one.
