bottom of the barrel
« on: August 11, 2015, 11:09:39 AM »
This is what a mis-spent $25 fetched on day three of a three-day estate/moving sale. Mostly just useful things (some antiseize!) rather than interesting, but note the Myers Combination Wrench (Milwaukee WI) in the middle of the picture, the cute little Instant-Grip to its right (a postwar German knockoff of a popular but pretty useless US design), and the Pawlock (Briles Mfg) combo wrench just below the linesman's pliers (I think Pawlocks have featured on this list once or twice before.) The monkey wrench is a P.S.&W. "Stronghold" model; the dial indicator is a Starrett, the pliers next to the S-wrench are Snap-on, the crescents are Crescent and Diamond, the punches, chisels, bars, and pincers are (mostly) Enderes, the pin spanners are Armstrong, there are a few Lectrolite and Bonney mixed in with the flat wrenches, and the dividers are Pexto. No idea who made the saw set. I'm fond of the little pin vise with pocket clip in the middle, next to the Myers: it came with a dozen drill bits in the #50-#70 range and a complete Huot index of #60-#80 drills (not shown).

That would have been Day 1 and Day 2, when I was at work. But I'd guess it looked like this:

Estate sales are funny.  There was one a few weeks back, five minutes away.  I went on Day One and bought a few things.  Went back the next (half-price) day, and got most of the things I'd spotted on Day One but decided against at the full price.  I can't believe some of the stuff that just sat there, untaken until I got it.

Looks like a good haul :)
And I'm proud to be an American,

who gave that right to me.

+1  I went to one last month. Selling Craftsman for close to new. Snap-on, Mac, and Plomb all on the dollar table.  (Before I saod anything he discounted that price on the 30 or 35 things I liked.)

Wouldn't budge on the Craftsman socket set........

I tried my darndest to buy a couple of 4-fold wood and brass rules today.  Tried to convince the guy that they were a fair deal at $4 each.
He wanted $35 for the two of them.  Said he looked them up on the web and would not budge.  And this was on the afternoon of day three of a 3 day sale.
Go figure.
Finally, I told him he should put the two of them in a picture frame to remember his grandpa, and I believe he may do it.
