Estate sale this Saturday!
« on: April 23, 2015, 11:06:49 PM »
Got an email notification about a sale this weekend. At least an hours drive north, but they say its worth the trip. Alot of wood tools. We've frequented their sales before. Good people.
Me thinks the wife and I will make a morning of it.

What a drive! Plus woke up not feeling so great.
Made the sale, tons of wood working tools. I'm thinking some of you guys would have had a field day.
I snagged two old mercury bulb thermometers. Got home and one was broken. Luckily the mercury didn't all leak into my lap! Since I do their estate sales regularly I've messaged them hoping maybe they can do something.
The other one is a Made in UK celsius model about 12 inches long. Nice aluminum storage tube halfway cut out so you can see the glass. And the tube has holes drilled in it around the bulb so it can sense air temp without having to pull it out! Very cool for $3. The wife grabbed some DVDs and a few bars of a natural soap we like. Saw several gallons of acetone and mineral spirits but by the time I swung back thru to grab them (didn't want to carry them all around the house) they were gone!
Braces and wood planes galore. But I'm not a wood guy. Egg beater drills were a bit expensive, yankee screwdrivers were real worn.
Oh well, had a great drive up and back with the misses, and lunch was great.

Getting out with the wife is a big plus. Finding just a few good things is easy on the wallet.

Yeah, it was great, other than me feeling sick. She checks out the furniture, old books, and collectibles while I dig thru rusty piles of tools. Then we hit one of our favorite restaurants (which happens to be on the exact opposite side of town!) and lunch was superb. She found a copy of "The Towering Inferno" on DVD, so that helped the day, too.

Don't overlook those old books especially if you can get them for a dollar a box.
Lots of old timers didn't trust banks so money was hid in books.
My old buddy found out when his dad passed. His sister looked thru one and found a bill and he had them boxed up for trash pick-up.

a few years ago, my neighbor had to go thru all his mother books and magazines when
she passed away. that also was her money safe. when she was alive, they kept after
her to throw away all those old magazine/books.

same thing with old bureau draws, always look underneath.

inside the old brown paper on the rear of old paintings.

ya never know.
