A couple of bench vises today

I got these two vises today at an estate sale. One is a red Colombian # 43 1/2 in really nice condition. The jaws are still as new. The other one is made in Japan and I got it for parts as it's cracked down the middle. I could use a swivel base for another vise I have. I hope it works. I wonder what it took to crack this vise.
