Burnworth tester
« on: September 14, 2011, 04:27:16 PM »
Picked up this continuity tester in a lot the other day.

Needs work - missing internals and bulb. Anybody know anything about the company? I'm sure I could fabricate the little parts I need, but if could buy them, would save time.

We would make testers like that out of 30 amp 600 volt renewable fuse holders when I worked for G.M..
Drill out the fuse body, put in a battery, spring and bulb, and WAH LAW a tester.
That was before they did away with renewable fuses.
Maybe they saw 4 400 amp links packed into a 400 amp 600 volt fuse body, anything to keep the place running.

I'm on a "get rid of digital" kick, and having a simple continuity tester would be handy to throw in the tool pouch. As soon as my current two digital meters bite the dust, they're getting tossed and not replaced. Already have a pair of analog meters (one Realistic and one Amprobe, both 80's vintage) to take their place.

UPDATE: I installed two AAA batteries, a spring, and a 3v bulb into the thing - and it works! Gotta love old American know-how.
