E.C. Muller N.Y. #5
« on: September 10, 2011, 01:58:31 PM »
Here's a cool tool of some sort. I'm guessing it's for wood work of some kind. I was able to look up a lot of EC Muller tools but I'm no wood worker. Still, it has that look a tool has when it is designed to last for a lifetime or two if well cared for. The picture makes it look big but it's a cute little devil at only about 4 inches handle included.

It appears to be an engraving tool, in looking at their web site. A "Bent Line CS Graver", to be exact.

Thanks Wayne.
So, my tool is not for wood at all, but a 'grave', for engraving metal.
Thanks for the links. I don't know if you noticed, but the 'progresstool' operation has been bought out by a company called Contenti and if you click on thier logo, you'll find some nice tools. Not old tools I know, but I bet most of those hand tool designs have been around for a few centuries. I can see tons of uses for these tools in the tool tune-up/restoration tasks that some of us take on. Tools for working on tools. How can you beat that?? You just never know where one little unknown item such as an EC Muller #5 (I saw lots of 'graves' but must have missed the ECM #5) will take you.
Did you happen to check that site out? I've never looked at that tool category much but it turns out there is much to see. Here are a few I thought were especially good: Top to bottom: Knifemakers Contour Vise, Contour Vise Jaws, Chasing Hammer, Ball Vise, Ring Vise attachment.

Cool Looking Stuff! Many people forget that we DO need tools to make tools!
