latest tool buys
« on: August 15, 2011, 02:07:38 PM »
HI guys, I went on vacation for a week. I bought a few tools while I was gone. I bought a great 5 1/4 stanley plane, an Irwin expansion bit (almost NEW in box), and three random wrenches: Thorsen 2016 (1.2 inch), proto professional 10mm, and an offset 12pt Westline wrench (5/8  and 11/16).
I bought the wrenches at a flee market. However, the market turned into mass chaos when an ambulence came flying into the field where some poor guy had a heart attack.  I hope he's OK, whoever he is. Well, I hope everyone is doing well. Brace yourselves..... I'm charging up my batteries for my camera.......... I've been trying to find every wrench I have, and match each wrench with its families ......  (brands).
It's a dreary day here. But, I think a lot of you folks have said that a day when the sun isn't "out" is a good day to take pictures of wrenches outdoors. So, wish me luck!
cheers, bird

Hmmm.  I  bought an Irwin expansion, in box, this weekend too.  The box caught my attention because it appears to be an early box --  all pretty.  Sadly, the bit has had the base cut off so that it could be used in a drill press or something.

Are you talking about an Irwin auger bit? I have an Irwin No. 22 Microdial Expansion bit with four bits. Holes from 3/8" to 3". You can have it for the postage. It is in an original box that is in horrible condition.

Hi Papaw,
I bought this Irwin beauty that is from the Irwin Auger Bit Company.  It's a no 2 Irwin Lockhead.   Maybe that's what you have, is it?

What I have is, according to the box,

 No. 2, 7/8" to 3" expansive bit  1/6 dozen
IRWIN
LOCKHEAD

Maroon box with  a black  label and white lettering.  There's a lot of stuff on the label, but the center is dominated by

The Genuine and Original Irwin Bits
The Irwin Auger Bit Company

There's even the (somewhat crumpled) thin wax paper that wrapped the bit.

Branson, the one I am offering is a #22, same box, but it is called a "Micro Dial" expansive bit. It is Patent #2215344. Has the bit and four cutters in the box, along with a pamphlet telling how to use it. The box is in poor condition.

Sorry if I seem graceless about responding to your kind offer.  Things have been hectic.
I would be delighted to accept your offer!   Let me know what the postage would be
to Sacramento, CA 95815

By itself it would be @$3.50 First Class, but I am hoping to have the tshirts by the middle of this coming week, and I could just put it in the same package as the tshirt.
