Pliers what are they for?

They would work on hose clamps , the wire ring type with ears . Not sure if that was produced that way or modified.

Looks like piano tuners' or typewriter repair pliers...

They have some wierd and wonderful shapes...

I've seen pliers like that used for holding round stock.  There is one kind that has a thin slit in the end, perpendicular to the opening, that is used for holding small tubing while it is cut.

I'm amazed at the number of special use pliers out there. I had a fairly extensive collection of Eifel pliers and many had special use mod jaws.  I wonder who the inventor of pliers was- maybe Flintstone. I think a person could collect only this type tool and fill many barns with them and not ever have all.  Chuck Garrett

The French plier museum (I've posted a link somewhere on the forum a few months ago) has thousands of models - it's situated in an old factory that would make any plier on demand....

The French edge tool maker, Talabot, listed over 200 different billhooks in their 1930's catalogue and stated they had the patterns for over 3000 more (and would make any other special form to order) - I recently found that in their 1950's catalogue they boasted over 7000 different types of scythe blade and 5000 sickles....

What hope do we have of identifying the specials..... (Many of the patterns were scrapped when the firms closed their doors in the 1960's or when the firms became run by accountants who 'rationalised' their business...)

Whoops - I'll modify that... and try to find the link to a video at Pont Salomon (before they closed in the 1960's) - there are a few seconds shot inside one of the pattern stores - rows of shelves full of different models of hoes, all labelled...

This finger infection ordeal has me at several doctors every week.  The week before last when I met with my infectious diseases doctor she asked me an unexpected question. I answered "Do you know what bear scat looks like."  She looked at me like I was the dumbest hillbilly she had ever seen.

Can perhaps date it a bit. Vindobona Importing Co was an Austria to NY importer around through the 1950's. Imported hand tools (pliers,wrenches), and light farm tools (scythes, sickles, hatchets etc).
Stamped  fence pliers (the usual style) are all over ebay, but the one above isn't the same.
(But I suppose it would work for tightening by twisting )

Vindobona was bought in 1970 by Seymore Manufacturing. was 25 years old at the time, so 1945-1970 worst case
