O-RATCHET
« on: August 10, 2011, 10:34:56 PM »
In going thru my 2 boxes of sockets from a yard sale, I found this one. At first I thought it was a broken wheel lug lock nut, but not so. It reads 1/2" O-Ratchet #13316-USA. After googling it, I found this is a thru ratchet system similar to the old mossberg's, to allow the bolt to travel thru it. Anyone have any info. on these as far as who makes them, any good, etc?

Thanks,

Wayne

Yes, these were discussed at length on Garage Journal within the past 2 or 3 months, but, in a nutshell, the one I have is stamped made in Taiwan on one side and has 3 patent numbers on the other side. The ratchet has nice weight and balance but of course, I cannot attest to the quality of the steel. The whole setup is designed to allow access to a nut on a long bolt or threaded rod. There may be other applications too, I don't know. There is also information on the case and possibly also stamped on the ratchet about the company in Texas that distributed the tool sets. They include their address and phone number on the case and may still be in business.
The concept doesn't get much respect in most of the discussions I have read, but on the other hand, the same tool is produced by at least a half dozen other makers, so, go figure.

I thought I saw something like that recently at Lowes Depot... open sockets with female hex ratchet.
