Uploading URL addresses
« on: August 09, 2011, 12:20:31 AM »
In the "Very Basic of Laymans Terms", can anyone tell me how to copy a URL address from Google, and paste it to a post on Tool Talk? Every time I want to share a good site, or piece of info. with the group, I have to type it in by hand, and it only works half the time when I do.

Example: step 1), bla bla bla
step 2), bla bla bla. ect. ect.

Thanks,

Wayne

When you have found something you want to share, just copy the url that you see in the address bar, then in your post click on the "globe" icon right above the text box. When you do that , you will see url and /url in brackets. Paste the address you want to link to between them and you will have a hyperlink.

This,  forum-signatures.com/help/?page=post, with http://www. in front of it pasted there will give you this-  http://www.forum-signatures.com/help/?page=post Follow that link for more.

Maybe I am confused since I did not understand what Noel was explaining but just in case this is what you meant I
1- went to a website,
2- I clicked on the address bar with my left button on my mouse, it became blue
3- With my mouse still positioned within the address bar I right clicked with my mouse and copied
4- I then came back to the post I was making and right clicked again within that post and then hit the paste deal and it became pasted within the response deal.

I am much surprised, but 1930 appears to be correct: the URL tags don't seem to be required (for some reason).

Perhaps SMF recognizes the "http" bit as a website and hyperlinks automatically?

That is apparently correct. So now you have two ways to do it.

Jason, You are the Man! I just tried your easy to follow instructions, and it worked great. I modified my post in the how to sharpen saws in the wood working section, as a test run.

Thanks Again,

Wayne
