18 inch Crescent, Crestoloy wrench
« on: August 06, 2011, 08:47:41 PM »
I could not pass up all this tool steel for 3 bucks today. Can anyone tell me it's vintage? I googled it, but I still do not know? 1960's? or much later?

Thanks,

Wayne

Alloy has some info that indicates the recessed panel extending all the way to the adjuster nut was added around 1960. Didn't see any examples with metric notation. Would be interesting to know date that metrics were added. Someone surely has a catalog to pinpoint that.

Rose has a no. 24 catalog, but it gives no date on it. It does however say "35 years of service", and I believe Crescent started out in 1905, so that would make it a 1940 catalog I guess? I believe this one is going to be difficult to nail down, because this #AC118 wrench looks like it is still being sold today.

I thought the metric notations were added around 1982. I don't have anything to back that up besides my memory so don't count on that being very accurate.

Wayne,

Is there any reference to Cooper or Cooper hand tool division anywhere on that wrench?

No, I do not see anything with the Cooper name.
