A.P. Joy buggy wheel wrenchs. 3 different styles
« on: February 24, 2014, 08:24:53 PM »
Finally finished my search for all 3 versions of the Feb. 1898 patent Joy buggy wheel wrench. I like the mechanical nature of these with the locking lever.

Congrats! Those look pretty interesting alright. How long have you been searching for that last one?
My friends call me Bob. My wife calls me a lot worse.

Not terribly long. They show up on ebay from time to time. Having the money to buy what I want is lots harder to track down....

Curious as to how many different versions of the Joy wrench are out there...anybody know for sure? Even different sizes and markings on the same sizes.

These are really interesting...............

Just plain cool hits more toward the center though! These wrenches flip my switch.

I wonder about the wooden side handles? What is the function of the handle?
And are they all correct as far as style and shape? Did they change it over time?

The lever locked on to the buggy wheel nut and the wooden handle was used as a spinner to remove the nut in a timely fashion. The handles are correct for each. Ive noticed on one other unmarked version that the handle was different than the marked versions.

I just saw a 20 inch version that was posted on eBay since last night. Starting bid I think is $75.00.

I have one of the 20-inch Joy Wagon Wrenches #3.  It's in its original black paint and aluminum-painted handle.  I got it off of e-bay a couple of years ago.

That's very cool. I know there's a 20" listed now. Not near as nice as yours.
