Odd Iron Implement...and Old!
« on: February 11, 2014, 07:13:51 PM »
Well...first I gotta reduce the size of my pics, it seems.

I'm using iPhoto (on an iMac) and haven't had to do that yet, so any suggestions will be welcome!

I'll be back, sooner or later.  wlw

Welcome to Tool Talk. Any picture hosting site or service will allow you to resize pictures or just post them here with image tags.
A free photo manipulation service that many use is Irfanview-  www.irfanview.com ,but not sure if it is Mac compatible.

Having the usual, to-be-expected difficulties associated with a new forum and format.  I took new pics (very much smaller file size) and got them under the modified post...but after I hit "save", and then after a long wait, got a server error.  I'll keep trying, and thanks for the welcome.  I'll get it, eventually.  wlw

We are having server issues that we can't control since we are on free forum software. Try agai and the pictures will post sooner or later.

Well, based on the pictures I can't see, I'd say it's either a part from a cream separator or a saw sharpener.

I find the site often will not accept uploads of images - next day no problem...

There are several ways to reduce image size, I use MS Windows Picture Manager (but that often crashes on my PC), Paint or if all else fails I e-mail it to myself and let Outlook automatically resize it, then use Save As to give it a new name (usually the original name with edit added, so I can refer back to the original image as well if needed)...

THIS DIDN'T POST:

Here we go again! Attach shows my four pics; none more than 250K, less than 800K total.

I'm gonna hit preview, as I don't see an 'Upload' or other choice but 'Post'.

Nope, that just shows my text.

Is one of the many buttons above this text-entry block used to 'attach' my pics? There's gotta be a way to tell the page to put the attachments inline (in the entry block).

Yesterday I learned that 'Clean Attachment' was an erasure feature...ain't gonna do that again.

Some frustrating, I gotta tell you.  wlw

AFTER A LONG WAIT, I GOT THIS:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I have found that this site won't accept text and photos on the same post.   So I just put in a few words, then hit post.  Then come back to it under modify, and add the photos.  ALways takes them then.  Just trying to live with the system.

Sorry for the troubles with pictures. We are all having trouble at times with this forum software.

There is a way- If you have the pictures hosted on a hosting site such as Photobucket, Flickr, or any one of the many out there, just click the icon above the text box that looks like a picture(looks like binoculars to me)- the first one in the second line- then paste the url of the picture there.

Two long wooden shafts, similar to handles on lopping shears or orchard pruners, went in the sockets, I believe. The hooks on one face of the tool appear to allow a grip under something either side of what the pusher (at the end of the pinion) was made to force into place...if that makes any sense.

I have shown this thing to many knowledgeable folks, lots of 'em in their 80's, who have worked in the woods and associated timber-related industries...none have offered anything but guesses. Interesting, aye!

We'll see if any of the members can illuminate the mystery!  wlw
