Prying tool? Solved

Dad found this at a garage sale this summer. It looks like it is used to exert leverage, but I don't know for what purpose. It has no marks. It also has traces of black paint despite someone's efforts to wire brush it off. It's about 15 inches long

It looks a little like an automotive valve spring compressor.  Is it marked in any way?

Yes , overhead valve engine spring compressor. You use the hook end as an anchor and push on the lever to compress the spring. Usually used with compressed air in the cylinder so the head doesn't have to be removed.
There are several different models , I have one for Chevy. I think KD ?
