Lakeside Forge Co. Wrench need some help
« on: October 14, 2014, 09:35:34 PM »
I found this wrench in a box of tools at an estate sale and after cleaning it up some I need some help with it. It was made by Lakeside Forge Co. in Erie Pa. I've searched online for info about the company but haven't found much. What I have found created more questions for me. Mainly the logo on this wrench is one that I can't find any other pictures of. All of the ones I've seen so far online are of the bridge looking logo. Mainly I just want to make sure this isn't something rare or special because I was thinking about using as a piece in a project I'm on.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to Tool Talk!

Quote
Tools produced by Lakeside Forge were frequently marked with the L-Keystone logo as a forge mark, a design with the letter "L" inside a keystone outline. (The keystone is a reference to Pennsylvania, which calls itself the "Keystone State".) Lakeside adjustable wrenches were offered under the "LACO" brand.

Note that at least one other company used "Lakeside" as a brand name. Montgomery Ward used "Lakeside" as one of their tool brands, although typically in combination as "Wards Lakeside" or "Ward's Lakeside". These tools should not be confused with production from the Lakeside Forge Company.

Examples of the company's standard tool production can be seen in the illustration at the left, part of an advertisement in the 1921 Condensed Catalogues of Mechanical Equipment published by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Timely!  I just found a 709 single end wrench in an old tool chest.  Looks like a Williams, and the numbering is right, but rubbing off the rust a bit I found Lakeside.

I have a Forging Industry Trade Marks sheet that lists many Drop forging trademarks. It attributes this mark to Lakeview Forging Co of Erie Pa. Are these the same company ?

Yes
"The Lakeview Forge Co. succeeded the Lakeside Drop Forge Co. in 1925".

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Is there any way to share that entire sheet?
