there are some repairs that do more damage than repair!  Some repairs are pretty cool thinking using common items "to get it going again"

A well-done repair on a useful tool wouldn't bother me; and, yes, in particular, I"m fine with a tool whose history shows a previous owner who could solve problems.

Just curious, do farm repairs mean an automatic no-go to your tool collection? I don't mean an arc weld splatter repair done by a 8 year old with two car batteries and a wire coat hanger, but a well done repair that made the tool usable for another 50+ years. I've been finding more and more braze repaired tools and I'm starting to prefer these. Obviously not collectible or worth anything, but the imagined story behind the repair intrigues me. I have no doubt this teens-1920's 15 inch H.D.Smith monkey wrench will outlive me and continue to work flawlessly for another 100 years.

This was rusty & stuck. After some quality time in the molasses bath, then rinsed with water then sloshed around in a weak phosphoric acid bath to  stop the  flash rusting. I was about to put it in the  noname wrench drawer but I spied some lettering. About 2 minutes on the wire wheel it came out nice. Last pic is  after a spray of semi-gloss clear finish. Almost looks like new!   Anyone know what the  45 stamped in the lower jaw means?

I was surprised to find it.  People must think they are made of gold considering the asking prices online.

Nice little Stanley Proto screwdriver. I like the keychain screwdrivers.

Champion was a brand, not a company. I pissed a few people off when I questioned that, but then they tried to find proof of a Champion company and found I was right. Champion mowers and reapers were farmed out to several different companies for manufacturing. Whiteley was the first company to make them and also the patentee.
