The collection continues. I haven't reposted this to the new ToolTalk, so here it is. I'm still searching for the rest of the Williams Superrench DOE ribbed style. Out of the 46 wrenches in the set, I currently have 40! I need your help finding the last 6 wrenches. The following wrenches are still MIA:
1027C
1028
1037A
1039B
1040
1041B
An example of this style is located here: http://home.comcast.net/~alloy-artifacts/Photos/tools/williams_oe2022_a1027b_wrench_ribbed_f_cropped_inset.jpg

Show off your set if you have pics! It's always nice to see a collection.
-
I will keep an eye out for you. That shank style is unmistakable....and purdy!

Wow! Good luck in finding those last few.
Those are very good-looking wrenches...
-
Those are very nice! Never have seen a one, but if I do ...
-
I think I'm in for a long haul tracking down these last 6 wrenches. It's been nearly a year since I last purchased one until this past week when I found two! I suspect it will be another year or more before the next one comes along.
I didn't know a thing about these wrenches until my FIL gave me a bag of misc tools with a small one in it. Thought it might be neat to put together a set of 8 or 12. After all, how big could the set be, right? Well, when I found out there are 46 I was amazed and challenged! They are out there. Just need to stay vigilant.

The thrill of the hunt!
-
I have a small one. I'll check what size and number it is this week.

I've been searching for Bonney tools to complete my set, and I'm down to the last wrench or two. Been at it 7 years now, these last two are going to take a while.
-
Sorry the one i have is 1725. 1/2 and 7/16
-
I don't recall seeing anything like that up my way, but I will keep my eyes open for them,
-
I believe one of the reasons they are fairly rare is because they are mostlyfound in industrial settings. They were not marketed in retail stores. Mostly through industrial suppliers from what I've found. It's likely the ones I see out there now are the ones that came home in somebody's pocket or lunch pail from work 40 years ago. The odd-ball sizes just don't exist.
-
The one I have came from an estate sale of a retired engineer. He had quality tools, mostly snap on from the mid 50's, that had little to no use. Is that about the same time period for these wrenches?
Was just looking and saw one on garage journal. Then I scrolled down and saw you already got that one. Congrats.
-
They were made in the early to mid 50's. Williams is now part of Snap On.
-
there is a rough one available here.

The numbers are fine, but how about the sizes? I had one, it walked away from my tool box, 1-1/16, always wanted to complete that set, but literally have not seen but one or two more in years.
-
Sumner52000, I inquired about the latest on GJ and already have that size in the collection. Thanks though!
-
I was cruising ebay over the weekend and thought I saw two of this style. Didn't click on and get sizes, condition, payment or anything. But the shank style caught my eye. FYI.

Actually, it was one on my list and I was the winning bidder! Now I will have six when the package arrives.

Hank, Take a look in the middle of the pile. Price is right, even if you can't see the size in the pic. Happy hunting. I'll buy the crafty H if you get the pile.

Thanks for the heads up on that one. I'm inquiring what size it is before purchasing. Last thing I need are more misc. wrenches laying around! It just might spur another collection.
-
Here's a pic of the set so far...
-
Bump...
-
Found one of these today. 1/4 & 5/16 Guess you already have this one. This one isn't great it has initials stamped on it.

Check out the above ebay auction. Not sure if you need these or not.....
-
I have had two of that style in the past. Both jumped out of my box and walked away. I think they are even more scarce than the New Britain I am collecting. Best of luck on the final six.
-
I found a # 1723 if your looking for it. Chrome is wore.
-
Thanks Ken, but I already have that one. Update - Its been well over a year since I've found one I'm missing. Keep your eyes peeled!
-
Ironic, not long after posting the other day I found one on eBay. Now I'm down to only four wrenches missing. They are 1027C, 1037A, 1039B, and 1041B.
-
Well, it's only been 2 1/2 months and I found another for the collection! I guess thats better than waiting over a year like I did the last time I found one. Bought a 1037A off eBay the other day. Now I'm only down to 3 needed to make the full 46 in the set! Thank goodness I decided against collecting the metric and whitworth sizes too...
Desperately seeking the 1027C, 1039B and 1041B. As always, thanks!
Tom

I had a DOE one inch X one-and one sixteenth, in my first used tool box as a teen. Later it got away from me. Was always amused by the spelling of Superench. Always kept my eye open for another, but none have come my way. See them on ebay from time to time. I am doing okay on my New Britain set, have over 23 pieces now. Good luck on continuing your collection.
-
John,
I probably have a duplicate one in that size laying around somewhere. I have at least a dozen extra in a drawer that have come with ones bought on eBay over the years. I sold a bunch a number of years ago as well. If I ever do finish this, I plan on putting a set of Plomb pebble combos together. That will be much easier I hope.
How many are you collecting in the NB set?
-
Just received a package in the mail from OH moments ago. It contained 6 Superrenches of which I needed 2 - the 1039B and the 1041B. Only ONE wrench left to complete the set of 46 and it is the 1027C - 9/16X11/16!
Anyone got one of those? Seems like it should be a fairly common wrench being the common sizes.
Hope to come by that one soon and finish this quest!
-
Ok, its been 7 months, 16 days, 23 hours, 56 minutes since I last updated about this collection. No luck in finding the final wrench yet. The last couple times I did post, I was lucky enough to find one soon after. Hope my luck happens again! For the record, still seeking the Williams ribbed DOE 1027C 9/16x11/16 to finish the set!
-
Having been to a few auctions in this time period, and flea markets, and farm sales, and maybe a pawn shop, have seen not a one of these Williams. I have one, a 3/8X7/16. Only one I have laid eyes on in the wild, good luck in your endeavour.
-
Ok, I'm seriously freaking out right now. A couple days ago I received an email from a member here making me aware of an auction for the wrench I needed. The coveted 1027C! The last wrench out of the 46 in the set! HOLY COW! I won the auction and at the risk of blowing it, I couldn't wait to shout it to the world that the search is over! Now I just have to wait for the mail man to arrive.
So now I have to work on how to display this set... Hmmm...
-
it is always nice to hear about a happy ending of a search, good for you.
-
There will be pics when the set if together, right? We need pics,,, we need pi
-
BTW, it was leg17 who brought the auction to my attention. Thanks!
-
I picked up a Williams ribbed A1037A today. Do you need that one?
-
Collection is complete! I'd still be interested in finding better examples of 5 wrenches. The ones I have are bare steel, not chromed. They'd have to be pretty nice though. They are 1720, 1021, 1723A, 1733 and 1039C.
-
Well congrats on completing the set, and good luck to you on getting the upgrades!
-
Ironically there are 28 of these wrenches on ebay right now including an example of the one wrench I looked for for 7 years. Here's a picture I posted in the wrench forum of the completed set:
-
I like the Barcalo double grip display too.
