J4 Chevy Spinner Lug Wrench
« on: November 02, 2013, 03:43:03 PM »
Hope I ID'ed this correctly.
Saw it on wrenching news 2013 auction 49-3.

Jaxon/J4 6.75" chevy spinner type lug wrench.

I thought I picked up a valve wrench so was surprised to see what it was.

Very neat, like the counter weight so you can spin the nut off.  Trying to think of an early Chevrolet wheel this would demount and come up with it perhaps being a wrench for a clincher style wheel, in the wooden spoke wheel days.   Still a wheel wrench, and I'd have grabbed it.

Not exactly sure when they started but thru the 1920's they had a split rim. pretty sure by 29 they had standard bead rims.

My '29 coupe had clincher rims on a steel wheel, but my '32 had wire wheels, with the lugs under a hubcap, the socket would need a six inch extension to reach down to the nuts in the wheel center.
