Found this old leather punch. It has a maker mark but I can't quite make it out....anyone here familiar with these? Has the word "steel" in an oval followed by what looks like "The S&EM...." Looks like there is more to it but i can't figure it out. Photos are below, not sure if the markings will be visable or not

That is one awesome solid turret punch! All I've ever seen have been the folded press metal ones, that seem to get "tinnier" the younger they are!  All the punches on that one seem to be in good condition, should see service for another 100 years?

Thanks..... Actually the #2 punch is broken but I still like it!

Probably is in fact S&E Mfg Co, Bridgeport, they made hand tools and padlocks(lots of them), sewing machines...(with button hole attachments)...

(Smith & Egge Bridgeport, CT)

S&E 1874
S&EM 1877-?
[for some odd reason, datamp has them as S&E and elsewhere as Smith & Egge]

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

On high end punches like this, the heads were usually replaceable.   I'd like to find that replacements can still be had, since I need to replace a couple myself.
