It would be an interesting thing to make, I can't for the life of me imagine why they made something so simple into such a complicated part, a bolt would have been a lot cheaper to make...
Craftsmanship? Form over function? Bitchin' design? Coolness? Was a time when you could have all those things and still make a buck.

I looked at it again today and it does not have any markings on it that I can see.

I cleaned it up and took a closer look and it looks like it has Deer on the upper jaw, 10 on the lower jaw and on the handle it has PAT SEP787.
