My mother tried at the antique shop

Well guys I just have to report today's find, well actually it was a gift to me from my mother.

Now I love my mother dearly, exept she's not a antique person. Expecially when it comes to tools. She went to a antique store with the intent of getting me a gift. She brought me home this "18th century Viinchester carriage wrench"  yes it's from the 18th century and its by Viinchester, at least according to the salesperson. Now my mom was so happy I couldn't help but go along and be happy about it.


Here's what a "Viinchester carriage wrench"  looks like. It's actually by Winchester but I didn't tell her that.

   I'd give a go at making that one right again.   It is not as bad as it appears, just one smooth bend.

       Making a new wood piece for the handle would be my shortcoming.

A tough repair, but I think it could be done.
   Making it look old again would be the hardest part. I think even that is possible.
No way it would be worth repairing a more common wrench.
 Probably not even worth repairing this one.

  But the Winchester name helps

My mom and family for that matter did the same thing back when I was collecting coke memorabilia. Took me a long time to get them to stop buying crap.

Once the scales are off and it is all apart, set it between two steel blocks and with a big ( 1"X1") drift, firmly and carefully pound the curve out. If you have access to a press, it is easier, but a big hammer can do it if you are careful.  Check Scottg's website for instructions on replacing wrench scales. May the force be with you!

Or you could just tighten that nut back up they were trying to loosen when they bent it. That should fix it right up. (:
