Two unidentified tools....
« on: July 08, 2011, 04:02:24 PM »
I'm trying to get some information on two tools I have, the first is marked 'BELL B System' and it may be some type of crimper. The second tool is unmarked .... maybe a tool to smooth edges of glass?? The tool has a file mounted in the middle with set screws, and a groove going up to the file part from one side - the other side is shaped like a curved handle.......
Thanks

The second one is what is called a saw jointer. Used to level the teeth on saws, before using a saw set to adjust them after sharpening.

My vintage tool Want list:
Wards Master Quality 1/2" drive sockets (Need size 5/8), long extension, & speeder handle.
-Vlchek WB* series double box wrenches.
-Hinsdale double-box end round shank wrenches.

Ditto, saw jointer, got one in a box at the flea, drive me nuts for a month trying to figure out what it was...

The pliers are likely NICO crimping pliers...

I think I used those pliers to splice telephone coax cable.

The crimper is a B wire crimper with a notch for crimping nicopress sleeves on telephone RDC cable and a second notch for crimping sleeves on B wire.

B wire looks similar to drop wire but has a much heavier conductor and is used to carry signal over distances up to a mile.

I knew I had just seen one somewhere odd....

Sears would sell you a non-Dunlap Non-Craftsman Jointer for 98c back in the day.
Of course, for 98cents, you only get one screw to hold the file in...
