How would you restore this?

How would you remove the rust? What would you coat it with when done?

I have few pieces from the fire that I wish to try to salvage, I am just looking for my best options for future use. Right now I don't even have a wire wheel set up.

I would see if a vinegar bath and a soft wire brush would clean it up. Then coat with oil or something to stop flash rust.
