I picked up a homemade thickness sander off CL today. From the pictures it looked well made and In person I was impressed. It is a wooden frame, it has a Dayton motor, and foot actuated casters to move it around, and a typical 18” wide drum. The only downside is it is manual feed. Since a new one is around $1200 I figured I could live with manual feed for $50.

It might be shop built, but darn professionally.   Is that a foot operated on off switch?   The quality of it just shouts, you done good.

No not a switch, you step on it and the casters go down lifting the unit to roll around.
It has a swich on the front.
I might look for a push button on/off.

The more I look at that, the more I like it. Someone did a *real* nice job. As to $50....the bearing set will cost you $40, so I think you stole it ;P

I will do Scott; I just recycled his CL pictures.

My guess is the shaft is around ¾”. The caster set up is really neat though.

I do have some bad news thought, when the wife and I wrestled it out of my car, and into the shop two of the boards came loose. I will re glue them and C’bore a drywall or Kreg screw in each joint, also it did not make it back to the wood working area, and the flat surfaces have already collected boxes of auto repair parts from Amazon and rock auto.
