Saw sets and a pair of nippers
« on: September 14, 2012, 05:56:15 AM »
I bought a lot off eBay some time ago that contained nippers, tongs and these saw sets. I finally gave the a bath in Evaporust. They are in the center a set of Kraeuter 1851-6 nippers. The cool thing about these is they have built up handles one of them being brazed on. I just pulled off the the one that isn't brazed on bummer the handle is broken off. I figured it was to build them up. Oh well. Saw sets The upper left a Stanley 42 Upper right is a Disston. Lower left is a COC CO is # 1 or 2 (not sure as is has these numbers embossed in different places) it looks like its to flatten the teeth. and finally lower right a Morrill's 1 B

People praise the pistol grip Stanley, a lot. But Morrell sold thousands upon thousands of their sets as well.
The difference is mainly, the Stanley is best if the saw is already mounted vertically in a saw vise and the Morrell best with the saw laying flat on a bench.
I like to have both as it makes a different position for my wrist, in use.
Setting a fine tooth handsaw with a lot of teeth is tough on a guys wrist!

I have a pair of those Krauters. Interesting the brazed 'cushion" repair. I love a repair that makes the article better than it was in the first place.

Works well but is more costly than other chemical methods.

It's good, but sometimes I can't tell much difference between its results and the results of using vinegar that you can get for a little more than a buck a gallon.
