I just registered. I am somewhat new to collecting old tools and also new to woodworking. I have a fair starter collection of colonial era tools and a handful of tools from the 1800s and a few pieces from the first half of the 20th century. I enjoy anything hand forged and all typea of historic items: tools, guns, books, furniture, watches, etc. I am 28, I have 2 businesses in Southwest, Ohio.

Welcome!  We do like pictures here.  What have you picked up from the 1700's?

Old tools and a woodworker?? What could be better?! What are your interests in woodworking? If you are interested in doing wood working "by hand" I'd recommend a few things. First of all, you should probably find tools you are missing, and pay a ridiculous amount of money for them with a check made out to me!!!! HAHA!  (I hardly ever sell tools, I just collect wrenchs, and use all of my woodworking tools).
      I'm not sure what all you know or don't know about tools. I certainly don't know much about wrenches.  But, if it's woodworking you're after, I know a fair amount about those tools. Building furniture is my passion.  I've decided what the perfect "tool collection" is needed for a woodworker.
`a decent brace, and a corner brace if you can get one
`a few paring chisels, a few mortising chisels...  a corner chisel is nice
`a nice set of auger bits
`a good square
`a good marking gauge
`a decent cross cut saw, rip saw, and a dovetail saw, and coping saw
`block plane, low angle block plane, bench plane (I have a no 6 that I love, but the serious 'grunt work' is left to my old wooden 27 inc plane)
`a few hammers, classic hammer, a couple ball pein hammers, brass hammer, and wooden mallet
` I'm sure there is plenty of things I'm not thinking of right now....
`well, a rebate plane is helpfull.....  and as many molding planes as you feel like buying
With that said,
I think I'll shut up, now.  I have a tendect to ramble on forever about things....  or about not much of anything at all. \

Here are three all wood, 19th Century braces on eBay.  Spruce up one of these for yourself, clean up the other two and make your money back.  This is cheeeeeep!
