Gang,
Ran across a strange one at a pawn shop this morning; it followed me home. It's an extra long (12") SOE 7/16" tappet wrench.
I checked AA and he/they showed the D-1, 7/16" x 17/32" DOE tappet wrench, but no long SOE models. The wrench is marked with Duro-Chrome/Forged in USA on one side of the head and 7/16" LDT-14 on the other side of the head. There is also what looks to be an I or 1 forged below the head on the beam. There are no other markings that I can find.
Since the Duro-Chrome name was trademarked in 1931, I'm guessing the wrench was made 1931+, perhaps a little earlier if they jumped the gun on the trademark.
In 15 years of tool scrounging, I've never seen another example of this wrench. Has anybody else seen this wrench or similar? Could it be for something other than tappets? Does anybody have any other thoughts on the date range?
