VBW, MAC, HUSKY, WALDEN, NEW BRITAIN, KANE
« on: July 31, 2012, 06:58:07 PM »
I got a few good ones to show off today. I think my favorites are the VBW pliers with the orange paint job. I think they are related to the Stahlwille group somehow but I don't know details. The Mac stubby bit driver is pretty nice too, and of course the New Britains are pretty spiffy also. I can't really pick a favorite. I think the Kane socket is SK, but I'm only guessing. Does anyone know anything about them?

The top one says Walden SpinTite 3118 on the shaft, the bottom one is a Husky USA CM64

I think there are a few more of these Kane sockets where I got this one if anyone is after them.

Hmm....Kane...SKwayne....

Do you suppose it was an aborted attempt at a new composite name?

I like the way the pin in the red pliers is side cammed so it won't slip and bust half your knuckles...
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

kxxr,

Your spiffy New Britain pliers are known as battery pliers; pretty common back in the day, but way cool!  I have them in several different brands and slight variations.

Another name for the NB pliers is "KEEPERS" (as in don't sell or trade them).

The battery pliers are still useful, lots of half inch nuts still being used on battery clamps.  The red pliers are very similar to a group of tools that Matco tools was marketing 10=12 years ago, pliers and screwdrivers, but the pliers all had rubber grips.  That tiny MAC bit holder is, I believe from a small kit that they sold 15-20 years ago, anyway that is the bell that rings for me.  MAC often marketed tools in their montly special handouts, that were not in their tool catalogs.

The red VBW pliers sure look like the ancestor to the current Knipex pliers.  Same hinge pin, same 3-layer hinge design, and the jaws even have the same design.

I use my battery pliers all the time.  Most of my batteries are top post and have half inch nuts.  These pliers also put a death-grip on round pieces around 1/2" in diameter.
