Favorite tool
« on: July 22, 2012, 10:57:26 PM »
I know us antique an vintage toolheads have a ton of collectibles.

So when it comes to all our collectibles what is your favorite tool that you own. Or maybe even what are a few of your faviorte tools.

For me its my grandpas Snap on 71N 1/2drive ratchet is my all time faviorte. Thats pretty much my faviorte. Not just the fact that it was my grandpas but just the feel an qaulity of tool is great. Then my recently added today vintage kennedy tool chest is up on the list as well.

I'm waiting to give away my favorite tool.   It is a black iron Crescent wrench, 12in. model.  The adjuster screw is welded in, probably by his son in law, my uncle.   I bought it on my neighbors farm auction 35 years ago.  This man was a friend of my fathers, and surrogate grandpa to me.   A farmer of the old school, that started plowing with horses before WWI.   His GG grandson is in grade school, I get reports back on his abilities  from my wife, and figure soon he will be gifted with this old wrench.  I hope I can convey to him what meaning an old tool can carry.

A great question but a tough one for me to answer, Nola.  I have so many I hold in high regard for different reasons.  Its analogous to asking me which is my favorite child.

PS - I DO have fewer children than tools :-)

That's a tough question, I have a lot of favorite tools, I don't think I can narrow it down to one item,BUT,I do have a Bedrock 607  which is a pleasure to use, also I have some small dbe cman which just feels real good in your hand and I keep an old Stanley bit brace close at hand with a countersink bit in it which I think works better than anything else I've tried. I could carry on and list a bunch more of my treasures but I think you probably know where I coming from when I say I love them all.

Seems to change from time to time as I get new ones. At the moment I would have to say its a toss up between a Gray S adjustable and a 21" perfect handle monkey wrench.

Favorite tool?  Oh, that's a hard one!  I can't even seem to come up with a favorite class of tool.  I was thinking edged tools (drawknives, planes, adzes and axes,  spoke shaves, and chisels), but that would leave out hammers and saws...  Yesterday my favorite tool was an English made Stanley low angle block plane because it was exactly the tool for a touchy project, closely followed by an old Stanley #53 spoke shave.

Too tough for me to say.  I have some I value more than others, mainly because of where they came from and the meaning to me behind them.  Probably my favorite is one I don't even own (yet, according to my dad)..  He has a huge pair of DiamondAlloy "Channellock" type adjustable pliers.  They have this green overwrap stuff on the handles, and whenever he needed them, he'd say "Go get the green tweezers!"   I've got a genuine pair of Channellocks the same size, but they will likely leave the box when I get dads pair.  His pair just holds more value to me.  I also have an old monkey wrench that belonged to my great grandfather.  I'm going to be buried with it!
My toolbox isn't complete, and I'm not either.  We're both missing parts!

I can't even contemplate a favorite! No way
I was excited last month to get a scarce putty knife, a lousy putty knife!

 I love everything

One favorite is the BAHCO Volvo adjustable that got me started collecting wrenches! I used it for years before finding it on the net.
